Dr Muhammad Umar, Director of institute of Allied Health Sciences, Rawalpindi Medical University, Head of The Department of Physiotherapy, Holy Family Hospital is a practicing Physiotherapist with certifications in Sports Medicine, Manual Therapy, Reiki, Telehealth and Rehabilitation. In his nearly two decades of practice, he has been providing direct services as well as mentoring students and junior staff in the streams of:
1. Physiotherapy for management of Neurological and Musculoskeletal conditions
2. Exercise physiology consults for sports professionals and coaches
3. Managing physio programs for special needs community including children
4. Conducting community based rehabilitation programs, specializing in surge requirements following natural calamities and pandemics
5. Management role, where he started his career in 2003 as a Physiotherapist and gradually rose to the position of Director Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Rawalpindi Medical University and Head of Physiotherapy department, Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi
6. Research review, as a reviewer in prominent journals of the country with thirty-two research papers published in recognized research journals
7. Continued contribution to medical community as he has two handbooks to this account, titled; “Back Pain among Medical Community and “Therapeutic Modalities for Physical Therapists”.
Parallel to his professional experience, he has bee upgrading his academic qualifications and utilizing his field experience and professional knowledge towards research leading to publication of artefacts in various journals as well as providing review to other people’s research work.
After completion of his Master in Public Health in 2010 and Post Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy in year 2012. he pursued his interest in research and its
linkages to the practice of various services he was providing. This natural affinity of research and practice combined by his inquisitiveness, he embarked on a study of “Impact Of Botulinum Toxin And Physiotherapy In Improving Functional Outcomes In Upper Limb Focal Dystonia Among Post Stroke Patients”. As this progressed and he sought expert input, this ultimately became his thesis for a PhD, completed in 2020. While undertaking his PhD, he continued his practice as a Physiotherapist alongside being the member of teaching faculty at the Institute of Allied Health Sciences (IAHS) Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU), Rawalpindi since 2008.
